A native of Miles City, Montana, Sydney Carlino’s father was a high school math teacher, and her mother served in school administration. She has an older brother and a younger sister. All three children grew up to have two children of their own. Sydney has two grown sons: Rodney, age 26 and Nathan, age 24, and was blessed with her first granddaughter, Payton Elaine, in December of 2007. Payton’s shares her middle name with Grandma Sydney.
Sydney spent several years in the Midwest as a mechanical design engineer in the automotive industry. Life in the Midwest had its challenges, including divorce in 2001 after 20 years of marriage. In 2003, Sydney transitioned to a career in financial services because of her strong desire to return to Montana. In 2005, Sydney made the bold move of leaving a six-figure income, selling nearly all of her possessions, and coming to Missoula with nothing but a 12-foot U-Haul and her resume.
Sydney eventually landed a job with Northern Rockies Financial Group. She has extensive training in economics, tax law, and personal finance. Merging her analytical skills with her ability to build strong relationships, Sydney strives to educate and involve people in the planning process. She is passionate about helping people accomplish their dreams and honor their commitments to the ones they love. Sydney’s areas of expertise include income protection, estate transfer, insurance, investments, and elder care planning.
Sydney met her husband, Dan Carlino, while interviewing with Northern Rockies Financial Group, when her colleague, Ron Hauge, took her to Finn & Porter for lunch. Dan and Sydney became fast friends, fell in love, and were married seven months later. Dan and Sydney have a wonderful relationship, and Sydney feels honored to help with the high-school years for Dan’s daughter, Kristina, especially as a math tutor.
Sydney is a published writer in multiple formats, and enjoys numerous speaking opportunities each year. Her experience includes self-produced seminars and financial workshops, as well as guest speaking invitations to organizations such as Missoula Businesswomen’s Network, Kiwanis, Rotary, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and Missoula Building Industry Association. In addition to serving the children of Missoula through Kiwanis activities, Sydney volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House. Sydney also volunteers at local high school career fairs and as a judge for senior project presentations. Sydney is passionate about encouraging girls to excel in math and science.

Perhaps the strongest level of support Sydney gives is by using and referring MBN members’ services. She shared with me that she has used and referred members of MBN for everything from personal needs such as makeup, clothing, jewelry, tailoring, massage, chiropractic, hair care, and kitchen supplies, to business needs such as coaching, property insurance, printing, graphic design, office supplies, legal documents, accounting, banking, and bookkeeping. Sydney epitomizes networking success and the power of supporting the businesses of the women in our organization and is truly "Flying High."
