Flying High Recipient-Bernadette-Hunter-2006
Bernadette Hunter, MS, has maintained a private practice in Missoula, Montana since 1987. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has been a Performance Enhancement Specialist since 2000. Bernadette works with business people, athletes, performing artists, and anyone who feels at some impasse from manifesting their full potential. Bernadette provides training on “The Tools of Peak Performance” to groups and individuals.
Bernadette came to Missoula in November of 1985, having been Assistant Director of S.H.A.P.E. Wellness Programs at Merit Care Clinic and St. Luke’s Hospitals in Fargo, N.D. She actually attended her first meeting of MBN in 1986 while Wellness Director at the University of Montana. There were eight women attending!
Bernadette grew up in the Red River Valley, the fourth daughter of generations of homestead grain farmers. One of her favorite family memories is piling into the car and driving around the sections of land to “look at the crops.” The rich farmland of the gumbo soil is still close to her heart.
Providing individual and group counseling and psychotherapy, Bernadette also taught a 10-week course for compulsive eaters, "Feeding the Hunger Within," for 11 years and still has a passion for helping women become free around food and comfortable with their bodies.
After 18 years working with trauma and eating disorders, Bernadette transformed her practice to work in performance enhancement for careers and the creative and performing arts. She closed her practice, spent several months in Maui absorbing Hawaiian culture, and returned to open Par Excellance Performance Enhancement.
“Work, sports, music, spirituality, and deep relationships have always been the main joys of my expression. I find such reward in participating with others and watching people light up and enjoy greater success in these areas of their lives!”
Bernadette completed individual and corporate Peak Performance Specialty Training with Sandra Foster, Ph.D, Licensed Psychologist, and is a Certified Executive Coach, and Sport Psychology Consultant certified by the Association of the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP).
Bernadette is particularly interested in working with corporate peak performance and with the mental aspects of golf. She studied with David Lake, MD and Steve Wells, Ph.D. of Australia in the area of corporate and individual peak performance and continues to study with Stacey Vornbrock, MS, of Scottsdale, AZ. regarding peak performance and rapid injury recovery for elite and recreational athletes.
Bernadette has been a practitioner of Level I and Level II Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) since 1995.
She holds a certificate in Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and has studied with founder, Gary Craig, regarding chronic illness and pain.
