2009 Businesswoman of the Year
For many years Frankie was a social worker, elementary, and middle school teacher. She spent time as a psychologist on an evaluation team working with children with developmental disabilities. Frankie has served on numerous non-profit boards in Missoula over the last twenty years and has a strong belief in giving back to the community. She was on the Missoula Catholic School board for twelve years and President for four. She and her husband served as Co-Chairs of BASH (fundraiser for Missoula Catholic Schools) for two years. She served on the board for First Night Missoula for six years and president for one year. She and her husband have also taught Sunday school for over twenty-five years. She was a Campfire Kids leader. She served three years as treasurer for Soroptimists of Missoula. She volunteers for YWCA monthly dinners and periodically helps out with the Food Bank Roots Program. She has presented to elementary, middle, and high school students on various topics including financial planning and the importance of math education for girls. In 1995 she was awarded the YWCA Salute to Excellence for contributions in the area of business. She was the middle child of seven and has over ten foster brothers. She attributes her perseverance and self confidence from the insistence of her parents that did what was best for her, whether she liked it or not.
Eighteen years ago Frankie became a Financial Advisor and Insurance Agent. She started Flaherty Financial Services in 1997, incorporated it in 2001, and currently serves as president. Frankie has given numerous seminars on insurance, investing and basic financial planning. She is a natural teacher and enjoys helping her clients understand their investments. She has received several industry honors including the National Quality Award for the life insurance industry, has been named to the “All American Team” for American funds, and the “President’s Council” for Van Kampen funds for financial expertise and dedication to the principles of sound investing.
Frankie has been a member of MBN for seven years. She served three years as Co-Chair for Women in Personal Finance. She has been a member of the MBN Relay for Life team for the last three years and is presently serving her fifth year on the MBN Synergy Board. She has been on the Symposium Committee all four years and started the whole sponsorship idea the first year to help pay for the symposium. She and Deirdre spoke at the first symposium on “Smart Women Finish Rich.” She was a speaker at this year’s symposium, where her topic was “So You Want To Start a Business, What To Do Next.” Frankie successfully led MBN as MBN President through the year 2007-2008. During that time she also Co-Chaired the 2008 Women's Symposium with then president-elect Anne Jablonski. She has given unselfishly to MBN for many years and this award is a small gesture by our organization in recognition for all that she has done for us, for our community and especially for all the people she has influenced and helped throughout the years.
Congratulations to our 2009 MBN Missoula Business Woman of the Year – Frankie Flaherty.
