2015 Businesswoman of the Year
Congratulations to Miranda Ming, 2015 MBN Businesswoman of the Year!
Our 2015 Businesswoman of the Year award recipient is the third child of four and a Missoula native. Miranda grew up watching her parents run a local small business, where she waited tables until the business closed in 1999. She attended Sentinel High School where she ran on the cross country team and played the flute in band. An active member of Key Club in high school, she credits that for fostering her desire to helping others through service and volunteerism.
Miranda received her Master’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Montana in 2002 and moved to Seattle to work at KPMG in the Federal Tax Group. At KPMG she received their Encore award, which is given to employees who “go above and beyond.” She moved back to Missoula in 2004 to be closer to home and be a part of a smaller community. Upon returning to Missoula, she was invited to join the Missoula Rotary Club and has been very active in the club's various youth programs. Currently, she serves as a counselor to the club’s high school exchange student from Austria.
On her return, Miranda also joined MBN and currently serves as our financial advisor. Past MBN roles include treasurer and co-chair of exhibitors for the 2014 Women's Symposium. This awardee believes in MBN’s mission of women supporting women, and works to tie in her personal interest in financial literacy with empowering women economically. She has brought a lot of attention to MBN and recruited several members, and many members have noted her quiet hard work, enthusiasm, and willingness to give of her time and talents in so many ways.
Miranda spends time away from her desk training for the annual Missoula Half Marathon and volunteering with Run Wild Missoula. Since 2011 she has been a volunteer coach for their fall beginners running class, and most weekends she can be spotted handing out water or directing runners on a local 5K course. Through running she has raised over $2,500 for both the Flagship Program and Youth Homes. She is also involved with Leadership Missoula, Habitat for Humanity, Relay for Life, HOBY, The Missoula Rotary Foundation, and the University of Montana School of Business Finance and Accounting Advisory Board.
Earlier this year, Miranda was promoted to Senior Manager of Wipfli/GHG where she specializes in tax and financial planning for small businesses. She has been with the firm for 10 years and enjoys building trusting relationships with her clients which go beyond the numbers. She is actively involved with the firm’s mentoring, wellness and internship programs.
A co-worker says, “She develops great relationships with her clients while helping them reach their financial goals. Her clients appreciate her attentiveness and the technical expertise she brings to their unique set of circumstances in helping them find the solution to their issue. The staff finds her easy to work with as she guides them down the right path and always does it with a smile. Overall a wonderful person, and I am proud to have her as a business colleague.”
She’s the happy owner of two cats, Elton & Domino. She enjoys cooking, biking, sewing, and traveling with her husband, Jacob. Congratulations, Miranda Ming, you are our 2015 Businesswoman of the Year!
